Frosted glass walls installation. Iconography Studios is proud to have designed, produced and installed these custom etched vinyl window graphics to create a frosted vinyl look on glass office walls at the Solar City HQ in Henderson, NV.
Etched or frosted vinyl film is the ideal choice of material to quickly and efficiently convert standard glass walls or windows into works of art, while at the same time offering the effects of privacy and light control.
Etched or frosted films comes in large rolls up to 48″ wide by 100 yards long. It can easily be machine cut on a plotter into almost any design or pattern imaginable, and can include text, logos and other cut-outs.
At Iconography Studios, we are happy to work with your in-house design team, interior design firm, architecture firm or graphic designer to help turn your designs and concepts into an etched application. We can also design something for you from scratch based on your concepts or ideas.
The frosted or etched vinyl material comes in several different densities and textures that allow varying degrees of light to pass through.
Installation of etched or frosted vinyl film is a bit trickier than traditional vinyl films. For this reason we strongly suggest you do not try this as a DYI project. A certified vinyl installer with years of experience is your best bet for a flawless installation.
Versatile frosted glass vinyl films provides privacy, adds visual interest, and can be customized with designs and branding for both commercial and residential applications. 3M offers a wide variety of finishes in their frosted films. It offers a cost-effective alternative to permanent etched or sandblasted glass and has many types of applications:

Frosted Glass Residential Applications
- Bathrooms: Frosted vinyl adds privacy to bathroom and shower doors, obscuring the view without sacrificing natural light. Some films are moisture-resistant and suitable for humid environments.
- Entryways: For front doors and adjacent sidelight windows, frosted film enhances security by blocking the view from outside while still allowing sunlight to brighten the space.
- Kitchens: You can apply frosted vinyl to glass cabinet doors to conceal clutter while adding an elegant, decorative touch.
Bedrooms and living rooms: In street-facing rooms, privacy films prevent passersby from looking in, reducing glare and making the space more comfortable. - Glass furniture: Apply films to glass tabletops to protect them from scratches and fingerprints while adding a decorative element.
- Mirrors: Frosted vinyl can be used to add designs or borders to plain mirrors.
Commercial applications
- Office privacy: In modern offices with glass partitions and conference room walls, frosted vinyl creates private meeting spaces without blocking ambient light.
- Distraction banding: In offices, horizontal bands of frosted film are applied at eye level to glass walls and doors. This provides privacy and enhances safety by preventing people from accidentally walking into clear glass.
- Branding and signage: Frosted vinyl can be cut to display company logos, taglines, and other branding elements on glass doors, conference rooms, and lobby partitions.
- Retail storefronts: Storefront windows can use custom-printed frosted graphics to advertise promotions or feature designs while still providing a professional, semi-private look.
- Healthcare facilities: Medical offices and hospitals can use calming frosted or patterned films on glass partitions and waiting room windows for patient privacy.
- Restaurants and hospitality: Establishments use decorative frosted films to manage privacy, reduce glare, or incorporate branded designs on windows and glass doors.
Benefits of frosted glass vinyl
- Cost-effective: It is a more affordable and less permanent option compared to installing actual etched or sandblasted glass.
- Customizable: Films come in a variety of styles, patterns, opacities, and colors. They can also be custom-cut to create unique designs, branding, or lettering.
- UV protection and energy efficiency: Some frosted films block UV rays, which helps reduce fading of interiors and can offer some control over solar heat.
- Easy installation and removal: Many frosted vinyl films use a static cling design, allowing for easy application and removal without leaving residue or damaging the glass. This is particularly beneficial for seasonal promotions or leased spaces
