Frequently Asked Questions – Iconography Studios

Why is signage so important for my business?

Signage is the best investment a business can have because it provides 24/7 permanent advertising. It is also the best return on your marketing dollars for branding and building your company image. And, of course, it helps current and prospective customers find the business. Most importantly, the sign portrays the positive image you want your company to have. The first impression is the most important. As we like to say, “a business without a sign, is a sign of no business!”

What is the best format for artwork that I may have to submit?

We must have your artwork in vector or line format in order to scale and reproduce it. Files ending in .ai, .psd or .eps are good.  Files such as .jpg, .tif, or .bmp are not vector files. Colors should be specified as CMYK, PMS or Pantone.

Artwork can be submitted on a CD ROM or DVD disc, or emailed to design@iconographystudios.net. If you prefer, we can send you a secure link to upload your files to our servers.

For fine art reproductions, it is best if the original artwork can be available for review at the studio during the proofing process.

What if I do not have my artwork in a vector file?

Don’t worry – we can vectorize almost any artwork, even if we have to re-draw it. This just becomes a matter of time and money. Contact us for an estimate.

What is a “proof”?

A proof is a way of ensuring that we have created your design accurately and that everything is positioned according to your requirements. Typically, we will produce a proof that will be sent to you online or printed on paper which can be viewed at our office or delivered to you in person. We do not start any project until we have received a signed proof from the customer.

For fine art reproductions, it is best if the original artwork can be available for review at the studio during the proofing process.

What are the elements of a good sign?

A good sign starts with a quality design from an experienced designer, and then it is crafted from quality materials and installed properly by expert sign installers. The size of your sign will be a function of what is allowed per city code, as well as the aesthetics of your building or location.

How do I compare prices?

This is the tricky part of the sign business, and the most important thing is to be sure you are comparing apples to apples. There is a wide range of materials that may look similar on the surface, but over time some will perform and hold up to the elements much better than others. Also, some sign companies may give you an initial lower estimate, but there may be add-on costs later on. At Iconography, we will work with you to create the best sign for your budget, and will advise you on the different options for materials up-front. We also will give you a final estimate before you order, and that estimate will not change (unless the order changes). This way you will know what you are getting and how much it will cost before the project begins.

How long will it take to get my sign?

As all signs are custom and made-to-order, it is difficult to provide a standard turn-around time. Artwork, permits, location, and production schedule can all have a significant time impact on any project. Listed below are some general guidelines that may help you in your planning process:

  • Monument signs: 3-4 weeks
  • Dimensional letter signs: 2-3weeks
  • Illuminated signs: 2-3 weeks
  • Vehicle graphics: 3-5 days
  • Window graphics: 3-5 days
  • Banners: 2-5 days
  • Real estate yard signs: 2-5 days
  • Digital prints: 2-3 days
  • Fine art reproductions: 1-3 days for proofs, 2-3 additional days for final prints
