Glass wall signs on stand-offs are a popular way to achieve an elegant display in your lobby, conference room, or other office space. Smaller signs, like the smaller 18″ x 36″ sign here, can easily be installed with four stand-offs, one in each corner. Larger signs, like the 36″ x 72″ one shown here, will need 6 or more stand-offs to adequately support the sign.

The frosted or etched vinyl material can be applied to either the front or the back of the glass sign face, depending on the look you desire. Other sign elements, including dimensional letters, cut vinyl decals and digital prints can be applied to the sign on top of the etched vinyl.
Options for frosted glass signs include using frosted window film or decals for a more affordable and/or temporary solution, or permanent etched/sandblasted glass for a sophisticated, high-end look. You can also choose frosted acrylic for custom shapes, as well as adding logos or other designs on top of the frosted glass to create a truly custom lobby sign. There are also a wide variety of and different hardware options both for constructing the sign as well as mounting it. Designs can range from simple lettering to complex patterns, logos, or full-coverage privacy treatments.
Benefits By Material for Frosted Glass Signs
- Frosted Glass Film/Decals: A cost-effective and flexible option that can be applied to existing glass surfaces.
- Pros: Easy to apply and remove, good for temporary graphics or information that might change, and available in various colors and patterns.
- Cons: Can be less durable than permanent etching or sandblasting.
- Etched/Sandblasted Glass: A permanent, high-end option where the design is created directly into the glass.
- Pros: Sophisticated and durable, ideal for permanent branding like company names or logos.
- Cons: More expensive and time-consuming to create, and permanent once installed.
- Frosted Acrylic: A versatile alternative to glass that is cut from a solid, frosted-like plastic.
- Pros: Can be cut into many custom shapes, is lightweight, and can be finished with various mounting hardware like standoffs.
- Cons: May not have the same luxurious feel as real glass.
Options For Lobby Sign Design and Application
- Full coverage: Use the frosted effect on the entire surface for maximum privacy.
- Lettering and logos: Apply just the frosted design to the glass to display a company name, logo, or hours.
- Decorative patterns: Incorporate intricate or geometric patterns for a decorative effect on windows or doors.
- Custom shapes: Cut the sign material (especially acrylic) into a custom shape to match your design.
- Shimmering colors: For a more unique look, some frosted films come in colors like gold, silver, or blue that add a sparkle.
Stand-off hardware comes in several standard sizes ranging from 3/8″ diameter up to 7/8″ diameter in a brushed aluminum finish. Larger shapes and sizes can be custom ordered to your specifications. The stand-offs consist of a barrel (the part between the sign and the wall), and a cap (the part you see on top of the sign), as well as posts and other mounting hardware that runs through the barrel and secures the entire thing to the wall. When ordering stand-off hardware, be sure to let your sign company know what kind of wall it will be attached to, as this can make a difference on which type of anchors and mounting hardware is supplied with your stand-offs.
