Graphic wall wrap by Iconography Studios. We are proud to have designed, produced and installed this graphic wall wrap on an acoustic wall in the MTV conference room at the company’s West Coast headquarters in Santa Monica, CA.
This project started with an image of a concert scene, that was then digitally edited to include half-tones which result in the overall abstract look of the graphic. Once the design was completed, it was printed on our 3M interior wall wrap film, and laminated with a UV film laminate for durability.
The installation location for this piece was on an acoustic wall, which presented a challenge because the wall wrap material would not adhere to the textured acoustic panels. We attached smooth-faced aluminum sign faces to the surfaces of each of the acoustic panels, and then applied the vinyl wall wrap to the aluminum panels. The result is a stunning piece of art.

How To Create A Custom Graphic Wall Wrap For Your Conference Room
Creating a custom-designed interior wall wrap involves designing high-resolution graphics, selecting the right vinyl material, printing, and carefully installing the graphic. Wall wraps are durable, removable vinyl graphics that can cover entire walls, doors, or columns, often lasting 5–7 years or more indoors.
5 Basic Steps to Creating a Custom Graphic Wall Wrap
- Measure and Plan
- Measure Accurately: Measure the width and height of the wall, accounting for outlets, doors, and windows.
- Add Bleed: Add 1–2 inches of extra material (bleed) to all sides of your measurement to ensure full coverage during installation.
- Assess Surface: Ensure the wall is smooth. While specialized vinyl can adhere to textured walls, smooth surfaces are best for a seamless look.
- Design the Graphic
- Resolution is Key: Use high-resolution images or vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) to prevent pixelation at large sizes.
- Design for Scale: If designing at a smaller scale (e.g., 50% size), ensure the resolution is high enough (e.g., 360+ DPI) to maintain quality when scaled up.
- Consider Sightlines: Place critical, high-impact elements at eye level and avoid placing important text behind furniture or in corners.
- Color Matching: Use RGB color mode, but request a physical print proof from your printer to check color accuracy, especially for branding.
- Select Materials
- Vinyl Type: Use removable, cast vinyl for interior walls. This ensures the graphic stays in place but can be removed later without damaging the paint.
- Laminate Finish: Choose between matte (no glare, good for hiding imperfections) or satin/gloss (vibrant colors) laminates to protect the print.
- Air Release Technology: Select vinyl with “air release” channels, which make it much easier to achieve a bubble-free installation.
- Printing
- Work with a professional large-format printing service like Iconography Studios to print your design based on your final measurements.
- Ensure the printing company specializes in wall graphics to avoid issues like “banding” or poor color quality.
- Install the Wall Wrap
- Prep the Wall: Clean the wall thoroughly with a mild cleaner and allow it to dry completely.
- Mark Guidelines: Use a laser level and pencil to draw light guidelines for perfectly vertical alignment.
- Apply the Graphic: Hinge Method: Tape the top of the graphic to the wall, peel off a few inches of the backing, and press to the wall.
- Squeegee Technique: Use a felt-tipped squeegee to smooth the vinyl from the center outward to remove bubbles.
- Trim Excess: Use a sharp utility knife to trim the excess vinyl at the edges, corners, and outlets.
- Post-Heat: For complex or textured surfaces, use a heat gun to ensure the vinyl adheres securely and conforms to the texture.
