A person can be 2 miles, 1 mile, 1500 feet or even 0 FEET AWAY.
Neon signage has always been a popular project for people, but the new aspect of it is being used for offices. And the new fad is using the standard white neon on contrasting bright color walls and that is exactly what we did with this project. The white is so sharp and clean that it strikes everybody’s attention and if you get the reference you can’t help but smile!
When it comes to any interior signage, your biggest thought should be location, location, location. Interior illuminated signage is even more dependent on location. Illuminated signs need power and needs to have something that it can plug into. Neon signs have a lot of wiring that is involved so you do not want to have the sign be installed in a location where the other side is seen a lot because you will see many wires.
In the signage industry, neon signs are electric signs lighted by long luminous gas-discharge tubes that contain rarefied neon or other gases. They are the most common use for neon lighting, which was first demonstrated in a modern form in December 1910 by Georges Claude at the Paris Motor Show. Neon tube signs are produced by bending glass tubing into shapes for the sign. After shaping, the hollow tube is evacuated with vacuum pumps and filled with gases to produce the desired color, e.g. neon gas for red lighting. Electrodes are placed at each end of the shaped tubing and the entire tube is sealed to prevent gases from leaking in or out which leads to tube failure
LED vs. Neon Signs
In some applications, neon tubes are increasingly being replaced with LEDs, given the steady advance in LED luminosity and decreasing cost of high-brightness LEDs. However, proponents of neon technology maintain that they still have significant advantages over LEDs. But, LED neon has expanded design possibilities like bendable shapes, gradient lighting, and multicolor displays that traditional neon cannot achieve.
Key Differences in Neon and LED
- Cost and Efficiency: LED signs are significantly more affordable, often costing 10% to 50% less upfront than traditional neon. Over a 10-year period, LED signs can provide nearly an 87% cost reduction due to energy savings and lack of professional maintenance.
- Aesthetic Appeal: Traditional neon provides a unique 360-degree “hypnotic” glow that many purists believe LED cannot perfectly replicate. However, modern LED Neon Flex technology has advanced to the point where the difference is difficult for many to notice.
- Versatility and Control: LED signs offer dynamic capabilities such as RGB color-changing, dimming, and strobing via remote or smartphone. Traditional neon is typically static and requires changing the gas to change the color.
- Installation: LED signs are lightweight and can often be hung “like a picture”. In contrast, traditional neon requires specialized installation due to its weight, fragility, and high-voltage power requirements.
- Environmental Impact: LEDs are the eco-friendly standard in 2026, as they contain no toxic gases like mercury and are fully recyclable.
Best Use Cases
- Choose LED if: You need a cost-effective, durable, and energy-efficient sign for modern branding, indoor home decor, or digital displays.
- Choose Neon if: You are seeking a specific “retro,” “vintage,” or “handcrafted” luxury feel for bars, restaurants, or art installations.
