Backlit Signage and Graphic Wall Posters by Iconography. This custom aluminum sign cabinet provides internal, back lighting for a stunning display at the AECOM headquarters in Century City, CA.
The graphic is digitally printed onto a translucent 3M film that is then applied to a panaflex material, also made by 3M. The panaflex material is a flexible sign face material with a smooth, semi-gloss surface. It is white-pigmented vinyl with a reinforcing polyester scrim, and is a perfect substrate for a large, back-lit display such as this one.
Panaflex material is versatile, durable, and flexible vinyl banner material typically made of PVC-coated polyester, used for large-format signage and advertising. It comes in different variants, including front-lit (opaque) for standard banners and backlit (translucent) for illuminated signs and lightboxes. Specialty options may include flame-retardant coatings, textures, or adhesive backings for specific applications.
There are Two Types of Panaflex
- Front-lit: This is an opaque type of Panaflex, ideal for applications like outdoor banners and large-format signs that are not illuminated from behind. It is highly durable and weather-resistant, designed to withstand direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions.
- Backlit: Also known as translucent Panaflex, this type is designed to be illuminated from behind, making it perfect for lightboxes, digital displays, and signs that need to be visible in low-light or nighttime conditions. It allows light to pass through for a glowing effect while maintaining high image clarity.
How Do You Make A Backlit Sign?
The aluminum frame sign cabinet was custom built to the client’s size specifications, and fitted with internal lighting elements. This creates a Lightbox. The internal lighting adds brightness and dimension to the graphic, for a gorgeous final product in this office space.
What Are Lightboxes?
Lightboxes offer both color and ambiance control. Many light boxes, especially LED-based models, offer control over brightness and color temperature. You can create a cozy atmosphere with warm, amber tones in the evening or a modern, crisp feel with cool, white light. Color-changing light boxes can be programmed to change based on the occasion or your mood
Light boxes can be custom fabricated into just about and size, and fitted with either fluorescent or LED lighting options. The graphic displays on the front can easily be swapped out for promotions, seasonal activities or just for an updated look.
Light boxes are a modern and versatile tool for decorating and interior design, whether in a home or a commercial space. They act as illuminated statement pieces that can feature artwork, text, or serve as a unique source of ambient lighting. Businesses and creative homeowners use light boxes to display their logos, design aesthetics, or other branded messaging. Light boxes can be integrated directly into a home’s architecture to draw attention to unique features, or in a commercial space to draw attention to specific products.
Custom graphics can be printed from just about any design imaginable, including custom designs, logos, text, photographs or a combination of all three. If you project requires photography, we strongly recommend purchasing high resolution stock images from one of the many online resources available such as istockphoto or shutterstock. Here you will find an enormous catalog of images for sale in super high resolution sizes. These are the best for printing at large format so that you don’t lose clarity of the image as it is sized up. Most stock images cost between $20-$50, so the cost is well worth the investment. At Iconography Studios, we are happy to help you find the correct sized images for your project.
