Custom Lobby Sign Pops With Stand Offs, Long Beach

Stand Offs Lobby Sign by Iconography Studios. It’s easy to construct a classy lobby sign, using several different materials to create depth and dimension. This lobby sign for local Long Beach business is no exception.

This lobby sign is constructed using two layers of plexiglass. The bottom layer of plexiglass is covered with a digital printed background that fades from blue to white. Mounted on top of the first layer plexiglass is a second, smaller piece of plexiglass that has etched vinyl applied to the reverse side of the substrate. Dimensional letters and logo pieces that have been router cut from PVC and then painted in custom PMS colors have been added to the front of the sign. Brushed aluminum stand-offs are used to attach the plexiglass pieces to each other, while allowing the top one to float off of the bottom one.

Why Is a Lobby Sign Important?

A lobby sign is crucial because it makes a powerful first impression, establishing professionalism, brand identity, and credibility the moment someone enters, while also serving the vital function of wayfinding, guiding visitors efficiently and reducing confusion, ultimately making the space feel welcoming and intentional. The lobby is the first physical interaction visitors have with your business; a quality sign immediately signals professionalism, stability, and attention to detail, boosting client confidence.

What Are Lobby Sign Stand Offs?

Standoffs for signs are mounting hardware that secure a sign to a wall, creating a modern, three-dimensional “floating” effect by projecting it a short distance from the surface. The hardware typically consists of a barrel, a cap, and a wall screw, and is commonly used for high-end applications like lobby signs, acrylic displays, and artwork.

The main advantage of using standoffs is the ability to transform ordinary signage into an eye-catching, high-end display. They also provide a secure and reliable mounting method compared to adhesives, and they create a protective gap that can prevent damage from moisture or impact to the back of the sign panel.

How Sign Stand Offs Work

A standard standoff kit includes a barrel (a cylindrical spacer), a cap, and a screw for mounting to the wall. The barrel is attached to the wall with the screw. The sign is then secured over the barrel and fastened with the cap, which screws onto the barrel. This process leaves a consistent gap between the sign and the wall, creating a professional and eye-catching 3D appearance.

Types of Sign Stand Offs

  • Through-hole: The most common type, where holes are drilled through the sign. The standoff’s cap passes through the sign and screws into the barrel.
  • Edge-grip: These attach to the sides of the sign, eliminating the need to drill holes through the sign material itself.
  • Hidden/Concealed: These allow for a clean look by mounting from behind or using clip-in systems.
